East Hickman Family Fitness was founded after a fire devastated Coach Eric Spence’s gym in 2014. His gym was destroyed and his faith and resolution were tested after the insurance company refused to honor their obligations. Amidst the ashes of a previously thriving location, Coach Spence was faced with two choices; give up and pursue other goals, or rebuild and continue his life’s work of making the world a healthier place. Wanting to give back to the community and seeing such a great need, the decision was clear. Rebuilding from nothing except his knowledge and reputation for integrity and excellence, Coach Spence relocated to Hickman County where he opened two facilities.
Coach Spence’s background as a professional power-lifter and personal trainer gives him a unique background from which to draw as he trains his clients. After graduating from Dickson County High School in 1987, he began a career as a strength trainer at Austin Peay University. During his career as a power-lifter, Coach Spence won 12 drug-free national power-lifting championships between 1992 and 2004. He won the World National Power-lifting Championship in 2001. Specializing in motivation and the science of fitness, Coach Spence has all the knowledge necessary to help clients set goals, formulate a plan, take action, and keep the faith until they see the completion of those goals.
Coach Eric Spence opened East Hickman Family Fitness in April of 2016. Coach Spence is passionate about helping people of all walks of life reach their fitness goals.
